Drunken Pumpkin

Have you ever spontaneously swerved off the road and into a Starbucks parking lot because you suddenly had to have a pumpkin spice latte? Do your ears perk up at the mention of a pumpkin muffin? Does the thought of pumpkin make you feel warm and fuzzy inside? If you’re even remotely as obsessed with that loveable plump squash as I am, brace yourself.

This week, I had the most blissful pumpkin experience of my life: The Pumpkin Pie Martini. Courtesy of Rezaz in Asheville, NC, this Pumpkin Pie Martini was so good that I returned to Rezaz two days later and harassed the bartender into giving me the recipe. Yeah, you’re welcome.

I won’t ruin it with some inadequate description. You need to experience the pumpkin pleasure for yourself. And if you live in Asheville, I suggest you go try the original at Rezaz (mainly so the bartender doesn’t get mad at me for publishing his treasured recipe!).

Pumpkin Pie Martini:

  • 1 tbsp pumpkin puree, strained (can be purchased canned or fresh, spiced or au natural)
  • Vodka of your choice–you can try vanilla if you’re feeling fancy!
  • Bailey’s
  • Goldschlager
  • Butterscotch Schnapps
  • Cream
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Graham cracker–crushed

Combine liquor to taste. If pumpkin puree is already spiced, strain and add to liquor. If it is not spiced, add cinammon and nutmeg to taste, then strain and add to liquor. Mix in a shaker. Line rim of martini glass with crushed graham cracker and pour liquor mixture in glass. Next, aerate cream (using an aerator or just wisk gently). Pour aerated cream in layer on top of the drink. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on top. Enjoy!
